This year Easter was so much fun! Lily is at the age now where she is understanding more and more what is happening. I couldn't sleep the night before because I was so excited to get up and see her reaction to everything. And with Mason crawling now, I couldn't wait to see him crawl up to his goodies and explore his special Easter basket from the bunny! What I love most about Easter is that it is a weekend long celebration because there is so much fun to be had!
Good Friday Festivities
Our Easter festivities started off on Good Friday. We went to my parents house and we continued on with some family traditions. We started with colouring eggs! This is one of my favourites because everyone joins in. My mom, dad, brother, Chris, Lily Mason and I all got creative. Even though we couldn't keep up with Lily -- she kept grabbing all the eggs leaving none for anyone else LOL! It was nice for all of us to sit around the table together and enjoy the moment together. It was full of laughter, jokes and fond memories. Lily was definitely more into decorating eggs this year and less hesitant to get messy. She was dipping her eggs in a bunch of different colours and showing her creativity. But as always BLUE ALWAYS WINS!
After we finished decorating eggs we made our traditional bunny cake! My brother and I have been doing this with my mom since we were little. So its extra special now that we get to do it all together with Lily and Mason. Lily had so much fun decorating the cake. We even got a little messy and silly with a Whip Cream fight! It all started off with my brother getting Lily with a bit on her nose. Sh was not impressed but it didn't take her long to think about slapping my brother in the face with the spatula - however he stopped her (BAD UNCLE TAYLOR!). But papa came to the rescue after my brother got him too and papa got Uncle Taylor good with the whipped cream when he didn't see it coming! Lily thought it was hilarious and was laughing just as hard as the rest of us. After all the silliness we went over to my Aunt and Uncle's house and enjoyed a delicious fish dinner!
Saturday
The Easter fun and anticipation for the Easter bunny continued into Saturday. Saturday we spent most of the day cleaning so the bunny could poop eggs all over the house. But we had some fun too! Chris and Lily made a mess and did some paper mache eggs together. It was so fun watching the two of them together and Mason even got up at the table to watch. All you need to do this activity is some flour and water to make the glue, some newspaper and a balloon! We also made sure that all of the eggs we coloured were out on the table so the Bunny could see what a great job Lily did! After some family fun we headed to bed. Lily put her Easter basket outside of the door so the bunny knew where she was sleeping. Daddy went to work when he knew Lily was asleep for the night and put Lily and Masons gifts from the bunny out and scattered eggs all over the house. He even put some bunny footprints around the house (purchased at the dollar store).
Easter Sunday
I don't know who was more excited to wake up Easter morning, Chris and I or Lily! Lily basically raced out of the room when she remembered the Easter Bunny was supposed to come. First stop was her basket outside of our room. The bunny left one egg inside to start the hunt which went all the way down the stairs, onto the main floor and into the basement! It was so much fun watching Lily's excitement at how many eggs there were hidden. Once we got to the basement Mason was able to crawl around and attempt to grab some eggs before his sister snatched them! One of the funniest parts was how Lily did not want to pick up anything other than eggs. The Bunny left a few Paw Patrol themed eggs (they weren't shaped as eggs though) and Lily wanted nothing to do with them. She also didn't really pay attention to her gift from the bunny she just wanted to find the eggs! Once she was done she was excited to check out all the goodies the bunny left her; a new chef dress up outfit, some outdoor toys, Scooby-Doo characters, a purse for her sunglasses and some other small goodies! Mason got a new chair for outside, a ball, some cookies, a cup, a rain coat and a Raptors T-Shirt. After the excitement was done - Lily enjoyed opening up all the eggs to see what was inside (yes I am the mom who filled all the eggs with chocolate and candy, and yes I plan on eating most of it!). Then Grandma, Papa and Uncle Taylor came over for a visit. Lily insisted on hiding all of the eggs again and doing a hunt with her Grandma. It was cute watching her play the role of the bunny. We ate lots of candy and chocolate all day and enjoyed the day together as a family - exactly how I would want to spend it!
But then I got the best Easter gift of all! Both kids went to sleep with NO FIGHTING & early! So this mama was able to enjoy some quiet time, relax and put my feet up! What better gift could I have asked for!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter weekend with your family! Whether you celebrate Easter or not I hope you were able to take some time for yourself and make some special memories!
