What advice would you give your younger self? Stay positive, life is not going to be what you expect but that’s ok, let go, be happy
Where is business located out of? I work in my home in Newmarket, ON and have a little studio near by I work in too.
How did you choose the name for your business? My creations seemed fun and whimsical (like me) and I used the word shenanigans a lot, especially at work, so the name kind of formed naturally, I felt like Sew Shenanigans both described my product and myself
How do you balance having kids & running a business? I find the balance very difficult, and this year I am striving for harmony instead. The most success I have to reach balance is to make specific time for family, for my daughter, for myself and for my work. Sometimes the lines blur, and when the unexpected happens, like illness and bad days, I find it harder. Hopefully it gets a little easier as my daughter grows, and in the meantime, I just do my best.
Where can people find your products? My products can be found in Whitby at la Petite Boutique, in Bobcaygeon at Studio 358, at The Local Life on Locke St, the Museum of Dufferin County (mammoths only), on my Etsy shop SewShenanigansbyMeg and ordered via messages on social media.
What advice can you give someone looking to start up their own business? Find something you love and are passionate about, figure out who your audience is and make a plan. There are so many wonderful free resources to help a business get started and when you are passionate it has a way a drawing in the help and people you need in your tribe oh and delegate whenever you can!
What sets your business apart from others alike? I think my creations have a character of their own, and you don’t often see 3d designs in handmade stuffed animals. They have tons of personality and 95% of my animals are fully machine washable and designed to be loved
What is the most challenging part of running your business? Wearing all the hats!! There are so many business things behind the scenes that need to be done and all I want to do is make. I try to get help whenever possible. Trying to balance all the many parts of my business in an efficient way
What does a typical day look like for you? Wake up and take a minute to myself. My hubby is usually already at work, so I get my goofball out of bed and we usually have a little snuggle. I make breakfast and then we go goofball out of bed and we usually have a little snuggle. I make breakfast and then we go out for a couple hours on a play date, or to a play place or the park. We get home and my daughter naps, I get a minute to sit and then catch up on emails, tidy up and then usually
sew a little bit before she wakes up. We play in the afternoon at home and then pick up
Daddy from work. My amazing husband loves to cook, so he makes dinner while I
entertain Ryleigh. After dinner it is daddy daughter time while I do some more sewing
and then bedtime! We put Ryleigh to bed, I work a little more and then my Hubby and I
spend some time catching up, and watch a little TV together.

@Camara.Crew Stamp of Approval I was so excited when I received our first small shop purchase for Violet. I find it really hard to find cute stuffies, rattles and lovies for babes. I am always looking for something that is unique, made with love and will be something that my kids will treasure for a long time. I knew when I first saw Sew Shenanigans products in the Local Life on Locke Street in Hamilton that I had to get something special for Violet.
Lily was so excited (as you can see by the photos) to help me unwrap our package with it arrived. She wanted to be the first to give them lot of love and snuggles so they were ready for her sister. From Lily's mouth she told me they were soft, pretty and that her sister was going to love them. And I couldn't agree more! After seeing Lily's excitement and hearing her talk about her sister seeing her new treasures, I knew these would be the perfect gift for Lily and Mason to give to Violet when they come to see her at the hospital.
Not only were these items handmade with so much love and talent, now they will be given to Violet with so much love from her siblings. Head on over to Sew Shenanigan's Etsy or Instagram page to see more of her AMAZING work! Trust me when I say your jaw will drop to the floor when you see some of the pieces that Meghan's created.
