Mason's 6 Month Update

I do not understand how time passes so quickly. I swear I was just pregnant yesterday, complaining about how uncomfortable I was. However, here we are celebrating Mason's half birthday! Lily keeps asking me if we can sing Happy Birthday to her baby brother and my answer? OF COURSE! Celebrating Mason turning 6 months, me surviving the past 6 months and not killing my children? Now that is something to celebrate! We will sing Happy Birthday and mama will have a drink; the big decision margarita or wine?

But in all seriousness, yes, I am crying as I write this because I cannot believe how big my baby boy is getting! I blink and he is doing something new. It is probably because he wants to be just like his big sister, but boy would I like him to slow down. Over the past 6 months, I have to say that my favourite thing is seeing Mason and Lily's relationship develop. Lily or as we call her "Mason's Sissy" is definitely Mason's favourite person. If he is crying and he hears her voice or sees her, he stops! He loves when she gets down on the floor and plays with him. And he always has his eyes on his sister. I actually think he gets worse separation anxiety when she leaves the room than when I do! It is the sweetest thing to see their love for each other develop. Lily already is so protective of her brother and watches over him like a hawk. If he is crying, she is the first person up to make sure he is okay and when he does not feel well, she gets her doctors kit to try and make him better. She loves showing him how to use all of his toys and hers. Sometimes she even shares her blankie with him which is a MAJOR DEAL! Lily doesn't share her blankie with anyone. I only hope that their relationship and love for each other will continue to grow.

I always wondered if when Mason started doing new things, it would be as exciting as it was when Lily did new things. The answer to that question is ABSOLUTELY! It is just as exciting as it was with Lily. Yes, we saw Lily do all these things that Mason is doing now, but it is so much fun watching Mason learn new skills and discover his surroundings. It is so special to share all those firsts with Mason as a family of four.

Megan actually captured Mason's first time sitting up for longer than 1 second on his own! He obviously wanted to put on a show for her

Some firsts that we have celebrated so far are:

-first time rolling over was of course at Grandma and Grandpa's just like Lily.

- first time on an airplane when we traveled to Mexico. - first time in the pool. Your sister hates how much you splash her! But we think it is so funny. - first time eating solids. You are just like your daddy, nothing makes you happier than food or angrier than when someone takes it away from you, especially your cookies!

- first time sitting up. You are so much happier now that you can sit up on your own and play even more! - first time standing up. Mommy cried at the library when she saw you stand up for the first time by yourself. I couldn't believe that when I moved my hands away you were able to hold yourself up already.

- first kiss was of course mommy! You love giving mommy big sloppy kisses. - first cold. Mommy was so sad when you got sick and gave you the best medicine she could, endless amounts of snuggles. And Dr. Lily was right there helping take care of you.

Some things that you really love are:

- bubbles! You love when your sister and I blow bubbles for you. You will follow them all over the room. - cookies! You love baby cookies, if momma dares to touch it you get so angry. - when you see your daddy. You bounce up and down and move like crazy.

- your jolly jumper. You would stay in there for hours if I let you. - seeing yourself in the mirror. You make the silliest noises and get so excited.

- when momma sings you Baby Beluga! It always calms you down.

- playing with your toes. It is hilarious watching you try to put them in your mouth. - getting scared! You love when we yell "BOO" or pop up and scare you - sucking your two fingers. You found your thumb, but there is something about your two fingers that you love.

My sweet boy, I hope you know how much we all love you. And I hope you know how much your momma loves you. I don't want you to ever question my love for you. There is something so special about having a son, and you my boy have taken that special place in my heart forever. There is no distance I would not travel for you or dream I won't help you pursue. I want you to believe in your heart that you are capable of achieving anything you put your mind to. That you will never lose; you either win or learn. Just go forth and aim for the skies. I can't promise to be here for the rest of your life, but I can promise to love you for the rest of mine.
