Meet the Maker - MAAT

Meet Sanny the talented maker behind the stylish company MAAT. MAAT is a Canadian based company, located out of London, Ontario, providing families the most modern, functional everyday bonded-leather mats. If you want to check out MAAT in person I highly recommend purchasing tickets to the Modern Mom Show in November (more info below!). I have attended the past 2 events and you will not be disappointed in the array of baby, toddler and momma shopping!

Do you have kids? If so how many & age?

I currently have one son, Luciano who’s 17 months

What's one thing people probably don't know about you?

Here’s 2 fun things: I don’t have a middle name and I was born in a taxi en route to Stratford General Hospital

What is your favourite thing to do for yourself?Tough question, but I think I’d have to say is getting my nails done

Who's your IG inspiration? @theovercompany - they’ve started at the bottom and look where they are. I’ve never thought to be an entrepreneur until I met the family behind OVer. Hard work pays off and they must feel array of emotions when they see their product being used globally.

How did you choose the name for your business?

We just wanted the title to be straight forward, to the point to what our product is. So we went with MAAT and added another “A” to be unique.

How do you balance having kids & running a business?

Honestly, it’s super difficult only because I also own The Sugar Parlour and I’m a part-time Dental receptionist. Which I have tried to resign to focus on my businesses but that didn’t go well and agreed on only shortening my hours. Also on top of all that, we recently got a new puppy. I personally never grew up with pets, so it definitely hasn’t been the easiest journey.

What advice can you give someone looking to start up their own business?

Set up a game plan. Ask yourself why do you want to start this. Don’t be hesitant and wonder what if it doesn’t work out. If you’re going to do it, then do it! Right away, I did my background research, I started using my knowledge and made my moves. Ask for help and network yourself to get your name out there which is key.

What sets your business apart from others alike?

We’re based in Canada and our bonded leather mats come in variations of sizes and colours.

Coffee or tea? Mm can Caramel Frappuccinos from Starbucks be an option?

Neutral or colourful? Neutral

Morning or night? Night owl for sure.

Wine or beer? Beer. I’m allergic to red wine (sadly)

Starbucks or Tim Hortons? Starbucks 100%

Online shopping or in store? Recently online because you know toddlers

Instagram or Facebook? Instagram

Text or phone call? Usually text

@Camara.Crew Stamp of Approval:

One of the most stressful parts of taking my kids out with me is not knowing if there is going to be a safe and sanitary spot for me to change their diapers. There have been way to many times where I have visited restaurants, malls, play places that do not have change tables. I am sure many of you can relate to this. Also having to carry around a ton of things for your kids. Now that I have two babes I try to minimize what I have to take out with me as much as possible. That is why I love my size small @Shop.maat!! It is the perfect size to use as a change pad and keep my babies safe and clean! It is wipeable, yes moms I said it WIPEABLE! Which is super important with kids, making sure items are easy to clean. I also love that it is soft, fits perfectly inside my @fosterhood.co diaper bag and takes up minimal space. The mat comes in a cute canvas bag that is reusable and great for keeping your mat stored away whether its your diaper bag, car or at home. What is great about these mats is that they all can be used for multiple purposes. Whether its under your child's highchair to keep the mess to a minimum, a change pad, a backdrop for photos, or a play mat you won't be disappointed!
